With the move to portability seen in growing popularity, due in part from the iPhone’s success (the iPad’s upcoming launch) and the PSP platform, Naughty Dog’s Co-President Evan Wells is looking to bring UNCHARTED to another small screen… the PSP.
Evan recently spoke to the guys at Joystiq to give his idea of what’s in UNCHARTED‘s future…
“I think it would be fantastic to see the game (move) onto a handheld system,” Wells told us. “Each one of the episodes is sort of like a standalone thing and I think we could do that pretty easily. If we can find a partner to work with, I’d love to do that … we definitely wouldn’t do it ourselves. We’re trying to just focus on the PS3 technology and platform right now.” He added, laughing, “But, if we can’t find a partner, then maybe we’re going to have to find a budget ourselves.”
Episodic adventures can be a great stop-gap offering for gamers as they wait for a full title that takes much more time for production. Ratchet and Clank, another popular game franchise, saw a smaller, downloadable title in between its two full games in the Ratchet and Clank Future series. That title, Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, proved popular among gamers as it helped generate anticipation for the final chapter in the Future trilogy.
If this happens, we can look to explore some smaller adventures from the UNCHARTED gang, including some back story for the characters. We can also envision some sort of linking functionality that would allow a potential second gamer to assist you as you play the all-but-confirmed upcoming UNCHARTED 3: Something Something. Hey, we can dream, can’t we?
