Yesterday, Sony Pictures announced that David O. Russell, who was earlier reported to be out of the running, is now officially slated to write and direct Colombia Pictures’ upcoming film adaptation of UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune. This move comes as news about the film appeared that the adaptation was headed to “development hell,” a media-industry jargon for a project becoming and remaining stuck in development and taking an especially long time to start production, if ever.
Previously attached as the writers for the project were Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, who also wrote the screenplay for Sahara and the upcoming reboot of Conan. It is unknown if Mr. Russell will scrap the duo’s screenplay and start fresh, or adapt from the earlier drafts.
Stay tuned as we follow the production of the UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune film.
