In an excellent interview posted on Game Informer, UNCHARTED‘s Creative Director Amy Hennig took some time to address some fan reactions to the recent UNCHARTED film rumors. Amy’s given her support for director David O. Russell in the past as with the producer, Avi Arad, and had a response regarding the casting rumors:
The stock answer that I can give you is that David is currently writing the script, and until he’s done, you can consider all of that rumor. It’s just a big rumor mill out there, right? There’s lots of conversations that go on, and anybody that’s worked in the entertainment industry knows that it’s very fluid. Basically, as far as the producers are concerned, talking about casting is completely premature, because, you know, we’re still writing the thing. It’s all still in the works.
When asked directly about Mark Wahlberg’s apparent “confirmation” of being cast as Nathan Drake, Amy repeated,
[Laughs] Well…I guess I just have to give you the same answer, which is, until David’s finished the script and everybody can look at it and there’s a budget and it’s green-lit and they start talking casting in earnest, it’s all just chatter.
This goes among the same lines our industry sources told us last week: that it’s still too early for any casting decisions to be made. The director can lobby for his choices in casting, but it’s ultimately up to the studios and producers backing the production before there are any announcements.
What does this mean for you? You can relax just a little bit, continue to campaign for your favorite actors, and we’ll see what happens when the official announcements are made.
