In an excellent interview posted onĀ Game Informer, UNCHARTED‘s Creative Director Amy Hennig took some time to address some fan reactions to the recent UNCHARTED film rumors. Amy’s given her support for director David O. Russell in the past as with the producer, Avi Arad, and had a response regarding the casting rumors:

The stock answer that I can give you is that David is currently writing the script, and until he’s done, you can consider all of that rumor. It’s just a big rumor mill out there, right? There’s lots of conversations that go on, and anybody that’s worked in the entertainment industry knows that it’s very fluid. Basically, as far as the producers are concerned, talking about casting is completely premature, because, you know, we’re still writing the thing. It’s all still in the works.

When asked directly about Mark Wahlberg’s apparent “confirmation” of being cast as Nathan Drake, Amy repeated,

[Laughs] Well…I guess I just have to give you the same answer, which is, until David’s finished the script and everybody can look at it and there’s a budget and it’s green-lit and they start talking casting in earnest, it’s all just chatter.

This goes among the same lines our industry sources told us last week: that it’s still too early for any casting decisions to be made. The director can lobby for his choices in casting, but it’s ultimately up to the studios and producers backing the production before there are any announcements.

What does this mean for you? You can relax just a little bit, continue to campaign for your favorite actors, and we’ll see what happens when the official announcements are made.

What are your thoughts on the latest rumors and the response from Amy? Let us know in the comments below!

For the life of me, I can't see why they don't hire Amy Hennig to write the new movie.

O. Russell out! Zach Levi for Drake!

Dylan McDermott looks way more like drake and might be cheaper. McDermott is the only real choice in my eyes to play nathan drake.

If the studio wants any of the fans to come and see the film, they'd damn well better cast someone other than Wahlberg. He has none of the charactaristics required to play Drake except the 'serious action hero' bits, which frankly are Drake's least important qualities. Fillion is the right type, but the man is 40 years old... he's not Drake material anymore.

A movie based on a game is intended to capitalize on the fan-base for that game. Taking the movie in a 'new direction' will do nothing but turn it into a cheap summer action film. Stick true to the game, the characters, the story, and the style. Mark Wahlberg ain't it. Also, Emily Rose should certainly be Elena...

In my mind the best choice is Joe Flanigan, when playing the game I think of him. He's just got that "vibe" of Nathan Drake down.

Wahooooooooo! Thank you for posting this hope-inducing article, Chris! Yes! It is as I have continued to believe: Nathan Fillion can still be Nathan Drake! Nathan is perfect for this role. It was written for him, after all! He's got the perfect acting chops, the perfect look, the perfect build, the perfect age, the perfect everything to play Drake! Nathan Fillion is the only real choice, and I will continue to campaign for him to help him win this, for it is rightfully his part!

I really don't know where all this Nathan Fillion's favoritism came from. Castle? Serenity? Firefly? Really? It seems one more of that inexplicable trends in Internet to me. Come on, the guy is too old for the role. What about Zachary Levi, Eddie Cibrian or Joe Flanigan? They're good actors, have the right age and look like Drake even more than Fillion. Zachary Levi is my favorite, by the way.

Mark Wahlberg? Please. The best actors for Drake and Sully are Nathon Fillion and Bruce Campbell. End of discussion.

Thank God for Amy Hennig. That was exactly what I needed to hear to keep some faith in my life.

@AndrewRothman You have a right to your opinion. But we will have to agree to disagree on this one. You are basing far too much on literal age. Nathan Fillion is essentially ageless. I've seen him close up. The man is young, beautiful, powerfully built, and incredibly sexy. At 40, 50, and beyond he will maintain his youthfulness. You'll see. According to your kind of logic, Harrison Ford shouldn't have been cast as Indiana Jones. He too was 39 when it started. But age was proven to be a non-issue with him, just as it is a non-issue with Nathan.

@Kcat10 Hey, don't get me wrong... I think Fillion would be awesome just like everyone else. I love the guy and I totally see how his personality is exactly right. I'm just saying that Drake, in the game world, looks and acts like he's younger than 40, and by the time they film this movie, Nathan Fillion will be 40 or older. Furthermore, by the time they get to the (god willing) sequels, he'll be even older. I can't see them banking what is basically an adventure flick on a guy who's going to be 50 by the time the 'Drake's Deception' installment comes out... particularly when his love interest is a naive young journalist, and his 'father figure' is a guy who's probably only in his 60s. If they cast Fillion it'll be awesome... I just can't see him being the pick because he's not the age range that's called for.

@AndrewRothman You are absolutely right in what you say about Wahlberg: He ain't it. You are absolutely wrong about Nathan Fillion: He IS Nathan Drake! You might want to check your facts, sir. Nathan is only 39 years old. Have you met him? I have, several times. He is young, hot, sexy, gorgeous, scary smart, built like a brick house, and he embodies power that is positively primal. And he is screamingly funny. Nathan Drake is based on him! Are you aware that countless numbers of gamers on the Internet and Twitter are crying out for Nathan Fillion to be Nathan Drake? They, and I, know he must be cast in this role. It's the right thing to do, and the Uncharted series will be wildly successful with Nathan Fillion as the star.

@WillMachado @chrisfullman Nathan Fillion is young, and he looks young. He is perfect for the role of Nathan Drake. Nathan Drake is based on him! I firmly support Nathan Fillion. He is the only real choice.

@WillMachado Oooh Zachary Levi. I didn't even think of him. He'd have to work the balance between jerk and sweetheart, but if he could pull it off? Yeah. I'd go for that. Good call.

@WillMachado "Come on, the guy is too old for the role. What about Zachary Levi, Eddie Cibrian or Joe Flanigan?"

Nathan Fillion is 4 years younger than Joe Flanigan. Just saying :)

@Kcat10 Lol I to agree but all your comments I have read are based on how sexy he is lol. Give it a rest ;D

@WillMachado @chrisfullman Thank you! I'm glad you believe! :) And if Nathan is too busy, Zachary is a fine choice.

Nathan showed such graciousness in this whole matter. He said via Twitter: "Facts: Mark Wahlberg rocks the party. I'd love to work for O. Russell. Let 'em make a movie with our blessings!" Then he added: "That having been said-- Hoo boy! You Browncoats are a force to be reckoned with! Glad I'm on your team!" I admire him so much for this. I sincerely wish Mark and O. Russell all the best. But hang on to your fedoras, because Nathan will win his very own adventure hero movie role one day soon!

Chris, thank you again for providing such an amazing forum to support our favorite heroes! You are awesome!

@RisingHero543 Odd that you say this now, several months after my having posted, but if you read all of my comments, you will see they are based on more than just his sexiness, which is abundant! The man has major talent, smarts, and savvy. He'll get his Indiana Jones type of role one day, and I support him all the way.
