UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune had Gabriel Roman and Atoq Navarro, two men fueled by greed. UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves had Zoran Lazarevic, a Russian war criminal motivated by the desire to live forever. And now we at All Things UNCHARTED present to you Katherine Marlowe, the head of a secret society that dates back 400 years to Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Katherine, however, is in this fight for neither money, nor eternal life. Katherine is in it for what she claims belongs to her.
“She’s a more cerebral, sort of insidious type of enemy.” Evan Wells, Co-president of Naughty Dog told Game Trailers, “Not the […] oppressive, attacking, straight ahead type of enemy.”
According to Wells, Katherine employs a group of people, a “secret society” that dates back four centuries, who believe the ring that Nathan Drake claims inheritance to belongs to them.
“Marlowe also goes back to the Elizabethian secret society that she began four hundred years ago, and one of her agents was Sir Frances Drake so she feels that that ring belongs to them”, Wells continued.
Personally, I am not 100% on what Evan means in this instance; is Katherine somehow four-hundred years old? Or does she (like Nate claims) have a long line of relatives that date back to the start of this age-old organization? Perhaps Evan misspoke? (He is talking rather quickly, so it’s likely a simple mistake.)
In the newly-released cinematic above, we are introduced to Ms. Katherine Marlowe, and in it, we learn that UNCHARTED 3 is sticking to its character-driven story-telling, and its deep, well developed characters. Just by watching this clip I can tell that I don’t at all like this woman. I can also tell that though she has that British, formal charm about her, she quickly (after indirectly being called a witch by Nate) reveals a blade she had concealed in her umbrella and pushes it up against his forehead and chin, questioning him of his fears.
